EU CREATES MAZIE HALL LIBRARY DISPLAY
St. Davids, PA, February 17, 2009: As part of Radnor Memorial Library's 200th Anniversary celebration, the Eastern University Warner Memorial Library agreed to set up a display of Mazie Hall memorabilia. This display, created by Eastern's Reader Services Librarian Joy Dlugosz, is also a celebration of Black History Month. And it's an invitation to the community to visit the Eastern University campus at 1300 Eagle Road in St. Davids to see more of Mazie Hall's black history collection, which she donated to the University.
Mazie Hall was an educator, civil rights leader, community activist, and world traveler who lived in the Mt. Pleasant section of Wayne, PA, most of her life. She was deeply religious and a member of Second Baptist Church in Wayne for 75 years.
Throughout her long and productive life (she died in 2006 at age 103), Mazie Hall taught children both in school and in her community, crusaded for equality, and collected African American books, biographies, church programs of notable speakers, newspaper clippings, and assorted educational items. Miss Mazie, as she was fondly known, also loved to give proper teas. The hat and gloves she often wore are among the items displayed at Radnor Library.
"A Tribute to Mazie Hall" will be on display at Radnor Library, 114. W. Wayne Ave. in Wayne through the end of February. An article about this display was written by Ryan Richards and published Feb. 11 in Main Line Suburban Life newspaper.
The Mazie Hall Room at Eastern University's Warner Library is open to the public during regular library hours. It houses an eclectic display of both common and rare items collected during Mazie Hall's remarkable life. For more information, contact Joy Dlugosz (jdlugosz@eastern.edu).
