St. Davids, PA, February 26, 2009:  Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will host the first Microfinance Conference at Eastern University on March 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The Conference will be held on the campus in the gymnasium at 1300 Eagle Road in St. Davids, PA.  Admission is free to Eastern students and faculty.  Tickets cost $10 for students  from other schools (with ID) and $25 for the general public. The keynote speaker is Joyce Lehman, program officer for microfinance at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Eastern University's SIFE chapter is organizing and hosting the Microfinance Conference in hopes that they will provide an opportunity for the academic community to join the discussion of challenges facing faith-based microfinance.

SIFE is a global nonprofit organization that seeks to involve its student chapters in developing projects that create economic opportunity using classroom knowledge and real-world skills.  "This was such a great learning experience for all of our members.  Faith-based initiatives and solutions are something that Eastern stands for, so that's why we're bringing this conference here," said Jessica High, Eastern SIFE member.

Seven guests will be speaking or participating in panel discussions, including keynote speaker Joyce Lehman.  The panel discussions will address pressing problems and innovative solutions to issues involving faith-based microfinance.
