EASTERN UNIVERSITY’S TEMPLETON HONORS COLLEGE PRESENTS HAROLD HEIE, PH.D.
St. Davids, PA, January 31, 2008: The Templeton Honors College at Eastern University presents Harold Heie, Ph.D., on Thursday, February 7 from 7-9 p.m. in the McInnis Auditorium as a part of Eastern’s “Conversations that Matter” moderated lecture series. Dr. Heie will discuss "Respectful Conversations in the Academy," a look at the ways Christian scholars do, or do not, engage the wider scholarly world. After presenting this lecture, Dr. Heie will speak again on Friday, February 8 at 10 a.m. in McInnis Auditorium, where he will address the issues behind the question of “What is important enough to warrant my life’s devotion?” Both events will take place on the campus at 1300 Eagle Road in St. Davids, PA.
Dr. Heie is the Senior Fellow at the Center for Christian Studies at Gordon College (MA) and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. His recently published book, Learning to Listen, Ready to Talk: A Pilgrimage Toward Peacemaking, is based upon the theory that Christians who hold the truth need not bother arguing with outsiders. The discussion will model the book- in that it will invite others to reject dogmatic confrontation with others, and prepare others to listen and to talk respectfully about disagreements.
A current resident of Orange City, Iowa, Heie served for forty years as a teacher and academic administrator at Gordon College, The King’s College (NY), Messiah College (PA) and Northwestern College (IA).
The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. To RSVP, call 610.341.1396 or e-mail nhartsoc@eastern.edu.
