EASTERN HONORS EMPLOYEES FOR YEARS OF SERVICE
St. Davids, PA, April 28, 2008: Eastern University honored 52 employees with five, 10, 15, 20, 30, 35 and 40 years of service during an employee appreciation breakfast on April 24. Eastern’s development and growth have depended upon the contributions made by its faculty and staff members.
“We do the breakfast every year to recognize the employees who have committed to serving this organization,” said Webster Fitzgerald, vice president of Organizational Development. “It’s a way of reminding our community that we appreciate our employees and will continue to honor and cherish them as we build Eastern to be the place that we envision.”
It’s frequently stated that the success of an organization can be determined and measured by the success of the personnel who choose to commit and grow with it. “It’s important to keep employees because it gives stability to the workforce,” Fitzgerald said. “More importantly, it enhances the value of the University and the knowledge that is acquired and maintained by these individuals herein is priceless.”
In addition to a presentation of awards of service, a special recognition was given to Walter Longhurst. Longhurst, a World War II veteran, has been an employee of Eastern University for 23 years. “We decided to recognize Walter’s commitment to the Eastern community, as well as to the safety of our country,” Fitzgerald said. “He truly exemplifies Eastern’s mission on a daily basis.”
