EASTERN UNIVERSITY’S TEMPLETON HONORS COLLEGE TO HOST SCOT MCKNIGHT, PH.D.

St. Davids, PA, January 10, 2008:  The Templeton Honors College at Eastern University will host a presentation by Scot McKnight, Ph.D. on Thursday, February 14 at 7 p.m. in the McInnis Auditorium as a part of Eastern’s “Conversations that matter” moderated lecture series.

McKnight, a professor, published author and award-winning blogger, is a widely-recognized expert on the New Testament, early Christianity, and the history of Jesus.  He will be addressing “Spirituality and the Empire”, which will include the breakdown of prominent figures from the New Testament and their impact on their respective empire. 

In addition to being the Karl A. Olsson Professor in Religious Studies at North Park University (Chicago, Illinois), Dr. McKnight is often the feature of radio and television interviews and is regularly asked to speak at local churches for community and educational events.  His award-winning blog, (http://www.jesuscreed.org), has been rated by Technorati.com as the #1 site for Emerging Church.

McKnight, a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Society for New Testament Studies, is the author of more than 20 books, including the award-winning The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others (2004), which won the Christianity Today 2004 book of the year award for Christian Living.  Some of his other popular titles include Embracing Grace: A Gospel for All of Us (2005), The Story of the Christ (2006), and Praying with the Church (2006). In addition, McKnight regularly contributes chapter length studies to books and articles for magazines and online webzines.

Dr. McKnight was awarded his Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham (1986) after receiving his master’s degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. McKnight earned his B.A. degree from Grand Rapids Baptist College (now known as Cornerstone University), where he was elected into the Hall of Honor for his basketball accomplishments during his undergraduate college career.

He and his wife, Kristen, live in Libertyville, Illinois. They have two children, Laura and Lukas.
