EASTERN GRAD TO OVERSEE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH FINANCES

St. Davids, PA, July 11, 2008: Moses Kumar, MBA, a 1991 graduate of Eastern University’s Fast-Track MBA in Management program (http://www.eastern.edu/academic/ccgps/sms/fmba/index.html) has been elected  chief executive of the agency overseeing the finances of The United Methodist Church.  The 54-year-old graduate also served the Eastern University community as an employee of Palmer Theological Seminary (http://www.palmerseminary.edu/) from 1988-2000, the latter part of his tenure in the role of Vice President for Finance and Operations. 

Moses KumarKumar was elected Secretary of the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) on July 8, 2008 and will officially begin his tenure on September 1, 2008. With more than 30 years of ministry experience, Kumar will oversee the finances of The United Methodist Church, coordinating and administering finances for its 11.5 million members worldwide.  Kumar will also be responsible for safeguarding its legal equity and rights.

“I firmly believe that God has called me and provided me with a path to this time and place of global ministry," Kumar said in a prepared statement. “As general secretary of GCFA, I will fully engage my leadership talents to guide the council in fulfilling its ministry of administration."

Kumar served as Treasurer and Executive Director of Administrative Ministries for the Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference for the past eight years.  A native of Chennai (Madras), India, Kumar resides in Jeffersonville, PA, with his wife, Felicia.  He has two adult daughters, Poornima and Penny.
