WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM DOING MISSIONS WORK IN COSTA RICA

St. Davids, PA, February 27, 2009:  On Saturday, the Eastern University women's lacrosse team leaves for a trip to Costa Rica.  The team will train in San Isidro de El General in the Southern Province, but the warm weather training is only a small part of the trip. The Eagles will serve through an organization called Patronato Nacional de la Infancia (PANI).  They will be working at two schools and with orphans.  They hope to serve through handyman tasks, painting, landscaping, cleaning, and they will be spending time with the children in play and giving lots of love.

Head Coach Camrin Azzarano and her husband, Michael, worked in the region and developed a heart for the people before she returned to Eastern to coach. "This will be a great opportunity for our team to grow together as we serve these children," Azzarano said.  "Costa Rica is a beautiful country, and we are so grateful to the many people who have supported us in our fund-raising efforts for this trip. We have dedicated ourselves to trusting in God's plan and purpose and we are excited to see what blessings and experiences we will have."

PANI is an organization that protects the rights of children and adolescents. This includes the rights to health care, education, justice, work, culture and recreation, and the right to a safe and healthy family life. PANI operates shelters, daycare centers, adoption organizations and many educational outlets throughout Costa Rica.

Eastern University women's lacrosse has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three years. The Eagles hope to return to the Tournament in 2009. The Eagles led the nation in caused turnovers in 2008, and they will look to build on that with a blend of experience and athleticism in defense.

The Eagles return from Costa Rica on Sunday, March 8, and begin play in the MAC on Thursday, March 12, with a home game against Arcadia University.  The Eagles, picked fifth in the MAC Pre-season Poll, will have an early chance to battle one of the team's picked ahead of them when they travel to 2nd Ranked Elizabethtown College on Saturday, March 14.
