St. Davids, PA, November 5, 2012: Eastern University will hold its two Winter Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, December 15, in the Gymnasium on the campus at 1300 Eagle Road in St. Davids, PA.
The morning Commencement at 10 a.m. will be held for students in the College of Arts and Sciences, Esperanza College, and and all Accelerated Undergraduate Programs except for Nursing. The afternoon Commencement at 2:30 p.m. will be held for students in the Campolo College of Graduate and Professional Studies Nursing and Graduate Programs.
The speaker for both ceremonies is Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner, a nationally recognized spiritual leader, teacher, lecturer and writer. Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner is also president of Skinner Leadership Institute, which she co-founded with her late husband, the Reverend Tom Skinner.Â
For many years, Dr. Williams-Skinner was the Executive Director of the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., comprised of the African America members of the United States Congress. She serves on the boards of Fuller Theological Seminary, Sojourners, Christian Community Development Association, and other organizations. In 2008, Dr. Williams-Skinner launched the Masters Series for Distinguished Leaders, a program that provides African American gifted and talented business and nonprofit leaders, ages 25-45, with mentoring and coaching.
Dr. Williams-Skinner earned her undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University, a Master of Social Work degree and a law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, and the Master of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry degrees at Howard University School of Divinity. She is the author of numerous articles about African American Christians, the church, racial reconciliation, and current political issues.
