‚ÄúIn this year‚Äôs winter dance concert, the students, faculty and musicians of Eastern University Dance focused on this special season of celebration, giving thanks and giving back,‚ÄĚ said Saleana Pettaway, Co-director of the Dance Department at Eastern University. ‚ÄúIt is a concert that captures the essence of who we are as a growing dance program and our mission to integrate faith into our artistic explorations. I know the performances will move, inspire and energize the audience.‚ÄĚ
‚ÄėTis The Season includes choreography by Eastern University students Laura Diestler, Stephanie King, Emily Lynn and Jazmine Bailey. The pieces range from solos to large group works, with everything from expressing the range of emotions and themes that lead us to search for truth, to creative media pieces that explore our state of being and address our social and political responsibility. Each dance stirs, uplifts and challenges the audiences to recognize the beauty and complexity of the human condition and ultimately reminds us to celebrate it.
‚ÄúTis The Season features the world premier production of Bioluminescence, a performance that treats the audience to intricate lighting effects and technical choreography conceived by long-time faculty member Stephen Welsh. This original work inspired by the Greek term, ‚Äėbios‚Äô for ‚Äėliving‚Äô and the Latin ‚Äėlumen‚Äô for ‚Äėlight‚Äô is an artistic narrative about the discovery of light and the primal spirit to harness its power. It combines the excellence of cutting-edge production techniques to present an engaging journey through sound, light and movement.
About Eastern University Dance

The program approaches the study of dance in a comprehensive manner, balancing the academic curriculum with performance production. The development of satisfactory technical performance is supported by engagement with historical, socio-cultural and aesthetic theory, exploration of creative potential, and instruction in pedagogical practice. The course work and community environment engage with individuals on physical, intellectual, social and emotional levels anchored in Christian spirituality-shaping a dance professional.
