Pre-Law
Eastern University provides pre-Law students with all the necessary advising to help them get into law school. Since there is no pre-law major at Eastern, students are encouraged to select a major that they are passionate about and will be of interest to them. While studying that major, our faculty can help to advise you towards your ultimate goal of law school.
Law schools do not require applicants to take certain courses before applying, nor does the American Bar Association (ABA) recommend any particular major as best preparation for law school. What is important is that students develop certain skills, acquire some general knowledge, and value the promotion of justice in our society. Pre-Law students are also recommended to select courses that will provide them with the skills and general knowledge that will help in law school. Many Pre-Law students get a minor in legal studies.
Admission to law school depends on two factors: a high grade point average (GPA) and a strong score on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Skills critical to the legal profession include analytical, problem-solving, critical reading, verbal and written proficiency. General background knowledge in American history and government, ethics, and economic reasoning is also recommended. Pre- Law advisors will assist students in making course decisions to enable success on the LSAT and in the classroom.
