St. Davids, PA, March 14, 2013: The Urban Studies Department of Eastern University presents An Arts-Based Approach to Youth Violence on Thursday, April 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This free workshop will be held at the Falls Center, 3300 Henry Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, 19129.
The presenter is Jamaine Smith, the Director of Community Programs for BuildaBridge International, a nonprofit engaging creative people and using the transformative power of the arts to bring hope and healing to children, families, and communities in the tough places of the world.
This interactive workshop will offer practical ways one can use the arts to guide youth in discovering the why: personal beliefs that move them toward violence, personal responsibility, how their choices to act out violently affect others and themselves, and personal transformation: how they can respond to situations without the use of violence.
It was at Eastern University that Jamaine Smith was able to merge his passion for the arts with social service, education and human development. Jamaine earned an MA in urban studies (community arts concentration) from Eastern University in 2012 and a BS in social work from Nyack College.
