St. Davids, PA, August 19, 2013: After an extensive national search, Eastern University has selected one of its own to lead the Athletics department. Vice President for Student Development Bettie Ann Brigham has named Nate Davis as Eastern's Director of Athletics and Athletic Development.
Davis is entering his fourth year at Eastern. In his first three years, Davis was involved in department leadership through his role on several important administrative committees and as part of a group that worked to build the Danny A. Hearing Indoor Golf Facility.
In addition to his work in the department, Davis earned conference Coach of the Year honors in two sports. He was the 2011-12 Freedom Conference Women's Basketball Coach of the Year. In 2013, he was selected as the MAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year. His golf team won a MAC Championship in 2013.
His first order of business as Athletic Director was to identify a solution for Women's Basketball and Women's Golf. For the immediate future, Davis will continue in his role as Women's Basketball coach. There will be an announcement concerning his replacement for Women's Golf as soon as details are solidified.
Ultimately, Davis felt that remaining as the basketball coach is the best solution for the basketball program and Athletic department at this time.
Prior to arriving at Eastern, Davis worked as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at USC-Aiken and at Mansfield University. Davis served in the Marine Corps prior to a successful college football career at Mansfield. Immediately after graduation he entered the corporate world where he gained experience in management and finance.
Nate Davis said, "I am truly humbled and honored with the opportunity to lead this Athletic department and group of incredible coaches and staff members. I appreciate the confidence and trust Dr. Duffett, Bettie Ann Brigham and the rest of the search committee have placed in me. I look forward to continuing to help build on the already solid foundation put in place. I truly believe that the future of Eastern University and Eastern Athletics is bright."
Davis will assume leadership of a department that has enjoyed growing success over the past five years. Four Eastern teams won Conference Championships in 2012-13. In addition to success on the field, Eastern Athletics has enjoyed success in building a network of support through the Eagle Club and other critical partnerships.
