May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
-- Hebrews 13:20-21 (NIV)
The EQUIP Program is an intensive three-week experience (typically in July) designed to provide entering first-year students with a solid foundation that will support them throughout their college careers. The academic component of the program aims to help students develop and solidify their skills in key areas essential to success in college. Students take classes targeting college-level reading and writing, critical thinking, and "survival skills" such as time management, study skills, and relating to others in the college community. Students have the opportunity to begin some courses that continue into their first semester of study.Â
EQUIP students stay in the residence halls, thus they get an early introduction to campus life. Recreational activities are planned to acquaint students with the local community and to give them a chance to get to know one another. Past EQUIP students have said that the friendships they developed and their familiarity with the campus made them feel that they had a real advantage when they started classes in the fall.
Entrance into EQUIP is made upon the requirement or recommendation of the Admissions Department. Other interested students may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
