Eric Cohen Speaks on Science, Technology and the Common Good Jan. 30

St. Davids, PA, January 15, 2014: The Agora Institute lecture series on Institutions of the Common Good continues on Thursday, January 30 at 8 PM in the Warner Library Atrium on the Eastern University St. Davids campus. The guest lecturer is Eric Cohen, Executive Director of the Tikvah Fund, who will present Science, Technology, and the Common Good. The Eastern University campus is located at 1300 Ealge Road, St. Davids, PA 19087.

Eric Cohen is Editor at Large of the New Atlantis, the journal of note on the relationship between technology and society, and the author of In the Shadow of Progress: Being Human in the Age of Technology (2008). Mr. Cohen is co-editor of The Future is Now: America Confronts the New Genetics (2002). He was previously Managing Editor of the Public Interest and served as a senior consultant to the President’s Council on Bioethics.

Our technological age opens up unparalleled possibilities in terms of knowledge, health, travel, communication, and equality of access, but at the same time poses serious challenges in terms of bioethics, justice, environmental consequences, religion, human interaction, and even our understanding of human nature and purpose. How can we manage our technology instead of our technology dominating us?

This lecture is free and open to the public. For questions or more information, contact Kelly Hanlon at khanlon@eastern.edu
