Winter Sort of Thing Musical Jan. 30 to Feb. 2

St. Davids, PA, January 23, 2014: Yes! And… Collaborative Arts and Eastern University Theatre present the Winter Sort of Thing production of Down With the Crown, January 30 through February 2. Performances will take place in McInnis Auditorium on the Eastern University campus at 1300 Eagle Road, St. Davids, PA 19087. It features kings, gypsies, dragons, and a whole lot of medieval mischief and mayhem.

Down With the Crown runs one weekend only and tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children and seniors, and $5 for students. Reserve tickets at the box office, 215-278-4264, or purchase online. The show runs approximately 85-100 minutes, is performed with an intermission, and is appropriate for all ages.

Through original songs, dance, and acting from both professional actors and children in the Yes! And… Collaborative Arts community, the story of Claude (the King) and his rocky relationship with his “loyal” subjects is told. Brooke Sexton writes the show as assisted by the children in Yes! And… Collaborative Arts programming. Germantown resident and composer Sarah C. Butts-Manzo, has written several new songs. Down With the Crown is directed and choreographed by Jake Miller.

The performance schedule is:

Thursday, January 30 at 7 PM (Opening)

Friday, January 31 at 11:30 AM (field trip performance) and 7 PM

Saturday, February 1 at 1 PM and 7 PM

Sunday, February 2 at 1 PM (Closing)

The Winter Sort of Thing ensemble is choosing to continue despite the sudden loss of long-time producer and mentor, Mark Hallen. Mark passed away at the end of August, just as rehearsals were beginning to be held at the Germantown Mennonite Church. Mark was supremely influential in the community of Yes! And… Collaborative Arts, helping us form and develop and then by serving on our advisory council. He was the owner/operator of the Germantown Theatre Center and also was the director of the theatre department at Eastern University. We choose, through our sadness, to honor him through the production of this, his final Winter Sort of Thing. A fund (appropriately, the Hallen Sort of Thing) has been set up in his memory to continue the work of Yes! And... Collaborative Arts in the Winter Sort of Thing.

Miller, Sexton, and Butts-Manzo are joined on the creative staff by Megan Prescott-Ezickson, a recent graduate of Eastern University, as the music director, Mark Duska as technical director/set design. Down With the Crown stars area performers Dan Ison (Bright Invention: The White Pines Ensemble), Kaylee Goodwin (MM2: Modern Dance Company), Julia Shields Chrestay, Alyse Haldeman and features over 40 children from Yes! And... Collaborative Arts programming.

The children who participate come from Philadelphia neighborhoods in Kensington, Fishtown, Brewerytown, Germantown, Mt. Airy, and others.
