Why Choose the Music Department at Eastern?
At the Eastern University Music Department, our motto is “music for life," which means that music education goes beyond competition, and even beyond achievement. This is why Eastern University's Music Department integrates spiritual formation with an historical, technical and multicultural understanding of music that emphasizes expressive art forms as a form of Christian service and worship. The Music Department offers a BA in Music with concentrations in: general music, church music, composition and electronic music, music education, and performance. The Music Department also offers individualized majors (subject to faculty approval) and a minor in music.
Eastern University is conveniently located just outside Philadelphia, one of the nation’s most musical cities, famously hailing the Philadelphia Orchestra. Other nearby ensembles and orchestras, in which our award winning faculty members play or sing, include: The Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, the Philly Pops, the Jubilate Deo Chorale and Orchestra, and the Delaware Symphony. Every year, the Eastern University Choir and Eastern ensemble, Turning Point, perform with the Jubilate Deo Chorale at the world famous Kimmel Center in downtown Philadelphia for a holiday concert.

Opportunities through the music program at Eastern University include internships, apprenticeships, professional semester off-campus, touring, and networking with local artists and art organizations in the greater Philadelphia area and around the world. Students can also be involved in on-campus ensembles and productions, including: Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Eastern Strings, Eastern Winds, Angels of Harmony, St. Davids Orchestra Society, University Choir, Theatre Department musicals and plays, The Kimmel Center Concert, Winter Music Festival, Music Gala Benefit Concert, and the Spring Music Festival.
