Student Success Center

What is success?

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines success as “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.”  We know that students enter an academic program at Eastern University with an aim and hope for success.  We also know that families including parents, loved ones and even children of our grad and doctoral students, have an expectation that the academic journey they too are investing in, will be successful; that success will be found through good academic performance, a place in the EU community, personal growth and development, a degree (or two or three) and finally a life work that is meaningful or sufficient to pay the bills or (preferably) both!

The path that leads to success is not always easy.  It can be full of potholes, barriers, challenges, surprises and disappointments as well as joys, fun, friendships, accomplishments, and academic, spiritual and social growth.  The Student Success Center and Advising Center along with the entire Student Development Staff have a unified purpose; to help our students, ALL of our students, navigate well through their academic experience toward success.

Student Success Advisors

To this end, the personal touch of an individual Student Success Advisor (SSA) is with each student from the very beginning of the academic journey at EU to the very end no matter the major, no matter the program, no matter the degree. Upon enrollment in any degree program, each student is assigned to an SSA who is available to them for assistance with ANYTHING they may need, any question they have, any barrier they may encounter.  This ONE person is connected to all services, all programs and all departments at Eastern and seamlessly connects their student advisees to what they need in order to move forward.

Success Advising is an added value to students who choose Eastern.  There is no question that is unwelcome, no request that will not be taken seriously and no run around to find out how to work through an issue.  Your SSA will work hard to make your life easier by answering questions, making suggestions, listening and advising as you need it, so that you can focus on your academic work and eventually experience the success you were hoping for when you chose EU.
