ABOUT THIS ISSUE

This year we devote our energy to promote understanding of one's own culture as a pathway to multicultural education with a belief that one needs to develop in-depth understanding of one's own cultural heritage in order to understand its interplay with other cultures with which they come in contact. 

This Spring issue specifically focuses on narration as a means to explore one's own culture.  In the Thematic Articles section, we include writings of Allison,   Greenhalgh, Jantzi, Scott, and Snyder, in which authors not only narrate selected events, encounters, and elements from their past but analyze the influences of these fragments in shaping their culture.

In the Instructional Ideas section, Chang, and Bloom and Smith introduce cultural autobiography and autobio poem respectively as ways to help students discover and reflect on their own culture.

The Open Forum includes articles of Cullinan, and  Mullooly,  examining broader perspectives and issues of multicultural education beyond this issue's theme.  

The Reviews of resources include literature for young readers, professional literature, and multimedia resources such as CD-ROM's, videos, and websites.
