ABOUT THIS ISSUE
Welcome to EMME! This is our humble beginning of the Electronic Magazine of Multicultural Education. In this issue we intend to examine the essentialist view of culture, which regards a culture as a definable entity with fixed boundaries that all members of a group theoretically share. We propose the constructivist view in which cultural boundaries are constantly redefined as its members frequently move across borders. Toward this end, Changs article re-examines the territory-based rhetoric of the "culture border," while Hunters letter urges students of multicultural education to cross their comfortable cultural boundaries to explore a new terrain.
Multicultural resources reviewed here include childrens literature; professional literature including books, magazines, and journals; videos; and websites. For this issue most reviews were written by the EMME staff. For future issues we would like to publish more contributions from students and classroom teachers, as well as scholars.
