The following are just a sample of the many Internet resources available to assist you in career exploration and your job search. We encourage you not to stop here!

Conduct your own Internet search of resources using search terms that match your interests and needs.  Search terms may reflect your career field of interest, geographic location, characteristics of yourself as an employee (ethnicity, disability, gender, etc.), company characteristics (Fortune 500), or the type of resource you are seeking (open positions, salary information).

For example, did you know there are Web sites for current and former college athletes, green careers, and jobs in collections?  You may be surprised by what you find. See the lists below to get started!

Career Exploration

CityTownInfo.com (especially Career Details link) includes career descriptions, videos, and personal stories; salary information; city information; college search information and many other resources.

Films On Demand (requires Eastern log-in) is a good source of videos about careers made available through Eastern’s Warner Memorial library.

Insidejobs.com provides information and videos on different careers and career paths.

Jobshadow.com is a great place to find interviews with people working in your fields of interest.

Jobtrainingplace.com provides articles on how to get started in specific jobs.

O*NET / O*NET (Espanol) provide a wealth of information for specific careers, including on-the-job tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities, activities, work environment, educational requirements, Holland interest code, and much more.

Occupational Outlook Handbook is a premier source of occupational information.

Bizjournals.com Philadelphia site offers business news, educational and networking events and other opportunities.

FOXBusiness provides business related news articles and videos.

Money.CNN.com/news/economy is a major source for news about jobs and the economy.

Wall Street Journal Careers Site has a wealth of articles and news videos on the job market and pertinent career and job search topics.

Company Research

Glassdoor.com provides an inside look (e.g., salary, company reviews) at more than 84,000 companies.  Info is posted anonymously by employees and job seekers.

Hoovers.com provides company profiles, product and competitor information, job posting, and more.

The Library of Congress provides a listing of resources for researching private, public and foreign companies.

Vault.com contains information on companies, industries, a job database and career articles.

Employment Projections/Labor Market Research

Bureau of Labor Employment Projections provides information about the Nation’s labor market for 10 years in the future.

O*NET / O*NET (Espanol) provides the national and state-specific employment outlook for specific career fields.

International

International Jobs provides a comprehensive list of international jobs, including international economic development jobs. Some sample vacancies are listed for free; however, to find all the opportunities, one must become a member (students pay $13, which is half the individual rate for six weeks). As a member, you will receive the "International Career Employment Weekly" listing over 500 new jobs each week.

Mi4corners.com facilitates employment overseas by matching job seekers with recruiters and offering helpful resources.

Relief Web is the world’s leading on-line gateway to information (documents and maps) on humanitarian emergencies and disasters. Their resources include a listing of international economic development agencies with a job database.

The University of Texas at Austin offers an excellent collection of resources for locating international opportunities.

Job Searching/Job Boards

Allretailjobs.com is the largest retail job board site.

America's Job Bank is the biggest and busiest job market in cyberspace. U.S. Department of Labor has developed this site in partnership with the states and private sector organizations. Includes Pennsylvania Career Link and more.

Betterjobs.com posts thousands of jobs and internships in Pennsylvani and other states.

Beyond.com has over a million jobs posted for your job search.

Careerbliss.com posts 700,000 company reviews and ratings, salary info, over 3 million jobs, and career articles.

Careerbuilder.com is accessed monthly by more than 24 million people looking for jobs or career advice.

Careerjet.com is an employment search engine for the U.S.  Gives the job seeker access to a massive selection of jobs that are compiled from various internet sources.

Christianjobs.com has merged with Intercristo.com to form the largest Christian employment site on the internet.

ChristianJobWire.com includes jobs, career resources, biblical wisdom and other information.

Collegerecruiter.com has been selected as a top job board in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Craig's List has been cited in a nationwide survey of 50 recruiters through Forrester Research as being higher in job board effectiveness than Monster and Careerbuilder.  (Note: Select city of interest and then job category.)

Cybercoders.com lists 6,000+ jobs with nearly half in business, engineering/technology and healthcare offering an average salary of more than $70,000 annually.

Federal Jobs Network provides information on specific federal job opportunities as well as an abundance of career resources for federal employment.

Federal Job Search offers openings in a variety of fields, which you can browse easily from this site. There are 51 federal agencies in Pennsylvania that are accepting applications from candidates with various experience levels and backgrounds. You can view the list of jobs for free; however, there is an $8 premium subscription fee that an applicant needs to apply for a federal job. Subscribers receive links to the full job description, contact information, application instructions, experience and academic requirements, relevant remarks and contact information.

Flexjobs.com is a well-recognized resource for locating telecommuting jobs.

Job-Hunt.org is an award-winning site offering valuable career and job-search links as well as articles written by career experts.

Jobs4Jersey.com provides a host of resources for the New Jersey job seeker.

Justjobs.com provides a job search engine, JustJobs Academy and even a dose of fun.
