Windows on the World is a series of forums that expose the campus community to Christian thinkers and activists and stimulate an engaging discussion on crucial and controversial issues facing Christians today.

FALL CONVOCATION (Gym): Special Speaker: Dr. Sharon Gramby-Sobukwe, Department Chair, School of Leadership Development.  “Pragmatism is not a Christian Value”.   The Convocation initiates the new academic year!  Honor students are recognized and new faculty, staff and administration are welcomed to Eastern University!

September 7-18: PHOTO EXHIBIT (2nd Floor, Warner Library)  “When a parent is in prison”  Our culture is steeped in shunning or distrust of anyone associated with incarceration…the shunning bleeds over into the family.  This exhibit features portraits of some of the 2.4 million children in the U.S. who have a mother or father in prison.  Photos by Howard Zehr (Eastern Mennonite University) from an exhibit by Howard Zehr and Lorraine Stutzman Amstutz.  On loan from Mennonite Central Committee.

Elizabeth Conde-Frazier, Dean of Esperanza College of Eastern University  “Ministry in the Midst of Human Trafficking” The second highest crime rate in the world is in the area of human trafficking.  Christian college students and retired church ladies have confronted this malefaction and brought healing to the victims.  Join the work of the Kingdom forcefully advancing!
October 9: Bart Campolo, Speaker/Writer/Activist, Leader of The Walnut Hills Fellowship (Cincinnati), Founder of Mission Year    “Streetwise Hope“  Veteran inner-city minister Bart Campolo promises to be open and honest about both the possibilities and the impossibilities he and his friends face in loving deeply broken people in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati.
October 23:   T.J. Foltz, MidAtlantic Regional Director of Scripture Union
“The Great Underestimation”   If it is true that nothing is more important to Jesus than children, then why is such a relatively small amount of human, financial and creative resources channeled in this direction?” (MISSIONS FORUM)
October 30:
“Tending the Soul, Caring for the World”. Palmer Seminary Faculty members, Dr. Francesca Nuzzolese and Rev. Willette Burgie-Bryant will dialogue with students in an exploration of the relationship between spiritual formation and social justice: do they enable one another, or is one a precursor to the other?  How do resources from one serve to enhance the other?  Come share in discussing these two essential dimensions of Christian faith and practice. dialogue with students in an exploration of the relationship between spiritual formation and justice.
November  6:
Manfred Brauch, Emeritus Professor of Biblical Theology at Palmer Theological Seminary    “The Abuse of Scripture and its Consequences in Contemporary Culture”  Abusive reading and application of the Bible is particularly tragic when present within the evangelical Christian community where the Bible’s authority and inspiration are affirmed.
November 13:
Al Tizon, Assistant Professor of Holistic Ministry at Palmer Theological Seminary, and Director of Word & Deed Network of ESA/Sider Center on Ministry and Public Policy    “Worship at the End of Time: Revelation 19 through Holistic Missional Eyes”   What does this worship scene at the end of time tell us about the church’s participation in the missio Dei today?
November 20: Herma Williams, Provost and Academic Vice-President of Fresno Pacific University “Change Begins Within: Hear the Word of the Lord (Jeremiah 29:11-14)   Changing the world must start first in your backyard.  Dr. Williams will share stories from her experiences as a Fulbright Scholar to Cape Town, South Africa.
