Pernell Jones has 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, primarily in New Mexico, his home-state. He served as Vice President for Administration/Chief Financial Officer (Hobbs, New Mexico) at the College of the Southwest from 1992 to 2003. While there, his achievements included leading an initiative that implemented a technological infrastructure and desktop tools across the campus, and facilitating the college's strategic planning process. From 2003 to 2007, Jones served as Vice President for Business Services at Grayson County College (Denison, Texas) where he implemented a comprehensive financial reporting system, and led a community-based initiative that ultimately resulted in a $40 million bond issue to revitalize Grayson's physical plant. Prior to his arrival at Eastern University, he was employed by San Juan College (Farmington, New Mexico) from 2007 to 2011.  As its Vice President for Business Services, Jones overhauled the institution's budgeting process and successfully steered the institution through the first crest of the recession.

Jones began his career at Eastern University in July 2011 as Vice President for Finance and Operations. He is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Assistant Treasurer of Eastern. He also serves as an administrative liaison to the Board of Trustees’ Finance and Property Committee, Audit Committee, Investment Committee, and Compensation Committee. Jones supervises several operations at Eastern, including Accounting, Finance, Purchasing, Plant operations, Student Accounts, and Human Resources. He participates in the formulation of broad strategic and managerial policies and decisions within all areas of the University.

Jones earned his Master's of Business Administration from Eastern New Mexico University, and his bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in accounting, from College of the Southwest.

Pernell is happily married to Tangela, and they are the parents of two children, Joshua and Jaden. He is very involved in local church ministries, primarily in the music and teaching ministries.
