Tom Ridington, PhD, is the Executive Vice President for University Relations/Special Assistant to the President of Eastern University in St. Davids, PA. Dr. Ridington has previously contributed to the advancement and development of Eastern University as Senior Vice President and Vice President for Development.  Prior to serving at Eastern University, he was the Director of Student Recruitment for Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.

The Office of University Relations provides institutional leadership for media relations, crisis communication, public relations, social media engagement, Eastern magazine, government relations, the board of trustees and external advisory bodies.  As Special Assistant to the President Dr. Ridington staff’s strategic presidential priorities, which have included:  conducting senior leadership searches, designing/developing new initiatives (Esperanza College, Openseminary MTS and the PhD in Organizational Leadership), relocating Palmer Seminary to campus and facilitating EU’s diversity and inclusion planning process.  

Dr. Ridington completed his PhD with the faculty of education at Stellenbosch University (Cape Town, South Africa) where his research interests included leadership development with leaders of non-governmental organizations.  He earned his MAR from Palmer Theological Seminary and his BA from Eastern University.  He completed additional study in higher education policy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education and in design and innovation at The Wharton School.  He has consulted with more than thirty nonprofits and NGOs dedicated to ministry, development and education.  He currently serves on the boards of Urban Promise (Camden, NJ) and Esperanza, Inc. (Philadelphia, PA).  He also volunteers as an ESL tutor with adult immigrants in his local community.

Dr. Ridington is married to Meridith, a community developer, and they have four adult children and three grandchildren.
