Student Learning Objectives

MSN Graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the art and science of professional leadership, educator, and clinical roles integrating holistic and Christ-centered values.
  • Practice as a clinician, educator, and/or leader who embraces the mind-body-spirit wholeness of self and others and who chooses regular self-care and lifelong learning.
  • Design plans of self-care that honor self as mind-body-spirit whole and an instrument of God’s healing that must be kept “in tune” through focused self-care and lifelong learning.
  • Create safe environments for learning and practice where ethical standards are upheld, including justice and nonmaleficence as well as appreciation of multiversity.
  • Argue for relationship as the foundation of professional leadership, teaching, and/or clinical practice.
  • Critique health and illness as neutral constructs and caring relationships as foundational for advanced professional nursing practice.
  • Evaluate reflexive practices that enhance mindfulness and recognize patterns of thought, perceptions, behaviors, and feelings that affect health in self and others.
  • Communicate at high levels of effectiveness using mindfulness, listening, nonverbal/verbal/visual, speaking, written, and technological skills.
  • Assess technology to insure that it is being used in ways that honor persons and enhance safety, quality, and the humanistic mandates of academic and healthcare environments.
  • Join with others in authentic relationship and partnership to explore meaning of health/illness and life experiences.
  • Analyze complex systems and groups, engaging in team work, and deep collaborative relationships with skill.
  • Assess persons, groups, and communities using Appreciative (strength-based) Inquiry, and offer an array of strategies to enhance problem solving and promote healing.
  • Evaluate quality of own professional practice and the quality of the organization in which he/she works using a variety of tools and strategies.
  • Model critical thinking, reason, and intuition to engage in full, tripartite Evidence- based Practice as consumers and collectors of evidence from all relevant and credible sources.
  • Implement Action Research methods to define and resolve problems encountered in health care and academic environments.
  • Appraise development of own emotional intelligence through mindfulness, continuing education and counseling as needed.
  • Nurture, creatively, the innate, God-given healing capacity of all persons, and the ability of all persons, groups, and environments to become more resilient and whole, even when options appear limited.
