Derek Kostovick is a professor of music at Eastern University where he serves as band director for Eastern Winds as well as teaching theory.  Derek has a background in composition for television and film working with National Geographic and films such as Iron Man and Transformers.  He recently helped write the show for the nationally recognized Souderton Area School District Big Red Marching band where he helps to this day.  Derek served for five years as director of music at Aldan Union Church writing many new songs as well as a cantata for choir and band.  He also happens to be an alumnus of Eastern University.  Derek has his B.A. in Music Composition and M. Ed in Multicultural Education.  Derek and his wife Lauren, an elementary music teacher, live happily in Quakertown.

Why I Teach At Eastern

I enjoy teaching at Eastern because of the personal atmosphere and faith integration. Eastern is a unique place where excellence and Christian values are cultivated and grown.

Research or Performance Interests

Derek enjoys performing live with jazz ensembles as a featured pianist throughout the tri-state area. In addition to performances, Derek composes music for school bands and choruses.
