The Faith, Reason, and Justice Scholarship Contest is an annual essay contest which disseminates $120,000 to 16 incoming freshman students who show commitment to Eastern's three fundamental values: Faith, Reason, and Justice. Interested students must:

  1. Submit an application to Eastern University, and
  2. Complete a 500-word double-spaced essay answering the following prompt: Eastern University's three fundamental values are Faith, Reason, and Justice. Describe how you have cultivated these values in your life and how you plan to further incorporate these values into your life as both an Eastern student and alumnus.

Scholarship Contest Details

  • The application for current high school seniors (Class of 20-22) has closed. Applications for the Class of 2023 will open on Monday, August 29th, 2022.
  • Each of the four academic colleges* (Arts & Humanities, Business & Leadership, Education, and Health & Sciences) will have four finalists. Sixteen total recipients will be selected.
    • One student per college: $3,000 annually for four years ($12,000 total)
    • Three students per college: $1,500 annually for four years ($6,000 total)

* Students in the Templeton Honors College are ineligible to receive the Faith, Reason, and Justice Scholarship.
