St. Davids, PA: Eastern University Biology Professor, Dr. Benjamin Dube, has been selected to receive the Hats Off to You award by Philadelphia Futures, a nonprofit organization that provides promising, urban high school students with the tools needed to pursue their dreams of a college education.
For the past 12 years, the Department of Biology at Eastern University has partnered with Philadelphia Futures to provide a select group of 25 rising Philadelphia high school seniors with an intensive 4-week environmental science summer program focusing on exploring the Gulph Creek Watershed.
Dr. Dube is being recognized by Philadelphia Futures for his extraordinary and impactful contributions to the program and his commitment to teaching students scientific methods as they together investigate the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems on campus.
Philadelphia Futures notes that, “the students and faculty here think very highly of Dr. Dube and have fond memories of their summers at Eastern.” Many program graduates now view Eastern University as a top choice of college due to their positive experience.
Dr. Dube has served as an Associate professor of Biology at Eastern since August of 2005. He received his Master of Science degree from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida/University of Zimbabwe.
Of his time at Eastern, Dr. Dube says, “I find this environment to be both intellectually inspiring and spiritually uplifting and one which I continue to benefit from immensely in my lifelong endeavor to serve God and humanity through science and technology.”
The Hats Off to You award will be presented to Dr. Dube during the Philadelphia Futures Graduation Celebration, an annual night to highlight the achievements of high school and college graduates, on Wednesday, June 7th at the Convention Center.
