Remembering Dr. Jack Weaver, Former Dean of Esperanza College

St. Davids, PA, December 15, 2013: The Eastern University community is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Jack Weaver, 76, who died Wednesday, December 11, of cancer.

Dr. Jack Weaver served as Dean of Esperanza College of Eastern University from 2005 to 2009. He brought years of experience in engineering to this role. With Title V funding secured, he was charged with supervising the infrastructure as well as remodeling and furnishing the new college wing.

Esperanza College was formed in 2000 through a partnership with Eastern University and Esperanza, Inc. to address the unmet educational needs of the Hispanic community. Esperanza College is located at 4261 North 5th Street in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Elizabeth Conde-Frazier is its current Academic Dean. 

A Philadelphia native, Jack Weaver graduated from Central High School, and from Cornell University in 1959 with a degree in chemical engineering. He earned his doctorate at the University of Delaware in 1965. Dr. Weaver spent most of his career with Rohm & Haas Co., retiring in 1990 as Vice President for environmental, health and safety, and engineering. He went on to work for eight years in the New York office of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. His interest in social justice led him to join Esperanza, Inc. and become Dean of Esperanza College.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 PM on Sunday, December 15, at Advent Lutheran Church, Second Street Pike and Worthington Mill Road, Richboro. A visitation starts at 6:30 PM. Burial is private.
