Eastern is proud to offer the following benefits to our military and veteran students:

Eastern Military Awards

Eastern desires to assist our nation's service members, their spouses and dependents, and veterans pursue their academic and career goals, particularly in the absence of other veteran benefits.

For Graduate and Professional Students:
The Hero Grant provides a 25% discount of all tuition for graduate and professional studies students in Associates, Bachelors, Graduate, and Certification programs. The Hero Grant also provides a 10% discount to doctoral programs. Current military service members and veterans are eligible.*

The Hero Spouse Grant provides a 15% discount of all tuition for graduate and professional students in Associates, Bachelors, Graduate, and Certification programs. Spouses of military service members and veterans are eligible.*

For Traditional Undergraduate Students:
The Hero Grant provides $3,000 per year for full-time students who are active-duty, guard and reserve members, or veterans.*

The Hero Legacy Grant provides $2,000 per year for spouses and dependents of veterans and military service-members.*

* The Hero Grant does not apply to tuition covered by the Department of Veteran Affairs or the Military through benefits such as the GI Bill® or Federal Tuition Assistance (TA).

Federal Tuition Assistance (TA)

TA provides financial asisstance to current military service-members to help support their personal and professional development goals. TA may be used for Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's degree programs.

In order to allow students using Federal Tuition Assistance (TA) to take full advantage of their benefits, tuition is reduced to $250 per credit for service-members utilizing this benefit.

TA Policies
Tuition Assistance does not pay for fees unless a base education office or branch service portal specifies on a TA authorization form or request that they are willing to do so.

Students will be recouped for grades that are not deemed successful. The following grades are acceptable and will not be recouped:

  • Undergraduate: C grade or higher
  • Graduate: B grade or higher (- and + will be treated as just a letter grade)

Tuition Assistance Authorization Forms must be submitted to the Student Accounts Office by the payment deadline (first day of term) each academic term.

Note: Military Tuition Assistance (TA) regulations require accurate start and end dates on all TA authorizations. Please reference the appropriate dates for each enrollment period.

My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA)

MyCAAEastern is committed to helping military spouses realize their academic and career goals. MyCAA offers unique scholarship opportunities to qualified military spouses.

Current military spouses interested in pursuing the following types of programs may be eligible for a yearly scholarship up to $4,000 through MyCAA:

  • Associate programs
  • Certification programs
  • Licensure programs

Spouses of military service members in the following pay grades may be eligible:

  • E-1 through E-5
  • W-1 through W-2
  • O-1 through O-2

Troops To Teachers (TTT)

TTT helps veterans with a heart for young people and education.

Eastern's College of Education offers programs that prepare veterans for a second career in public school, private school, higher education, or educational training. In keeping with the Eastern ethos of Faith, Reason, and Justice, Eastern seeks to empower veterans called to serve as teachers and other educational professionals in high need schools. Per these efforts, Eastern is proud to participate in the TTT program, which provides individual counseling, financial assistance, scholarship and funding resources, and placement assistance to veterans seeking to transition to this new career path. GI Bill® & Other Veteran Affairs Benefits:

Eastern is proud to accept the following veteran affairs benefits.

GI BILL® Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI BILL®)and Yellow Ribbon Program
If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001, and are still on active status, or if you are an honorably discharged Veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for this VA-administered program.

Depending on your eligibility percentage you may qualify for up to 100% of tuition and fees, a yearly book stipend of up to $1,000, and a monthly living stipend based on the location of the school.

Yellow RibbonEastern is also a proud participant of the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon Program is an enhancement program to the Post-9/11 GI Bill® that helps participants cover expenses that remain after their Post-9/11 GI Bill® has been applied. With the Yellow Ribbon program, Eastern and the Department of Veteran Affairs work together to cover these remaining expenses. Only participants that are 100% eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Montgomery GI BILL® (Chapter 30)
The MGIB-AD program provides education benefits to Veterans and service-members who have at least two years of active duty service. Assistance may be used for college degree and certificate programs, technical or vocational courses, flight training, apprenticeships or on-the-job training, high-tech training, licensing and certification tests, entrepreneurship training, certain entrance examinations, and correspondence courses. Benefits are generally payable for 10 years following your release from honorable active service. Learn more about and apply for the Montgomery GI BILL® here.

Montgomery GI Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR Chapter 1606 & 1607)
The MGIB-SR program provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Selected Reserve, including the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by the Selected Reserve components and VA makes the payments. The payment amounts may vary.

Vocational Rehabilitation (VocRehab Chapter 31)
Vocational Rehabilitation provides financial support for tuition, books and fees to veterans. To verify your benefits eligibility you may contact the VA at: 215 842-2000, extension 2638 or by email to: natilee.thomas@va.gov. Other available programs that officer assistance through the VA are the Survivors & Dependents Assistance Program, Tuition Assistance Top-Up, Tutorial Assistance, Work study, and Scholarships. PA National Guard Education Assistance Program (EAP)
A member of the Pennsylvania National Guard who is eligible to receive EAP can receive this benefit which can be up to $3,400 per term.
