Building Bridges was a multi-media showcase featuring the artwork of incarcerated students enrolled in Eastern University’s Prison Education Program (PEP). It took place at Swarthmore College on February 2nd, 2024. The event was headlined by renowned Philadelphia poet Ursula Rucker and talented multi-instrumental musician Miles Orion Butler. It showcased visual art, music, poetry, theater, and dance created by PEP students and local community artists. The event originated in art courses PEP students  took at SCI-Chester over the summer of 2023. Although students designed the works of art to be shared, they couldn't be physically present– so our collective hope was to "build bridges" via creative expression so that space could be made for them to share their hard work and passions with other artists. The event lived up to its name-- bridges were built--and we look forward to future artistic collaborations.
