Why Choose the Music Department at Eastern?

  • A Distinct Philosophy: In the Eastern University Music Department, our motto is “music is for life," which means that music includes but transcends competition and even achievement.  This is why we seek to explore, perform, and teach music in a Christian context and to assist students in developing music appreciation and skills for local and global music ministry. This is achieved through the integration of spiritual formation with historical, technical and multicultural approaches that emphasize expressive art forms in community.
  • Variety of Programs & Concentrations: The Music Department offers a BA in Music with concentrations in: composition and electronic music, contemporary music, general music, music education, performance, and worship arts. The Music Department also offers individualized majors (subject to faculty approval) and a minor in music.
  • Award Winning Faculty: Eastern University is conveniently located just outside Philadelphia, one of the nation’s most musical cities, famously hailing the Philadelphia Orchestra. Other nearby ensembles and orchestras, in which our award winning faculty members play or sing, include: The Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, the Philly Pops, the Jubilate Deo Chorale and Orchestra, and the Delaware Symphony. The Eastern University Choir and Turning Point Ensemble have performed multiple times in holiday concerts with the Jubilate Deo Chorale at the world famous Kimmel Center in downtown Philadelphia
  • Endless Opportunities: Opportunities through the music program at Eastern University include internships, apprenticeships, professional semester off-campus, touring, and networking with local artists and art organizations in the greater Philadelphia area and around the world.
