General Web Policies
Policy on External Department Websites
Eastern University does not permit individual departments to create external websites (i.e., Google Sites, Wix, Squarespace), except in very rare and unusual circumstances that have been pre-approved by the Marketing & Communications office. All department webpages should be housed within the University-owned and operated websites (i.e. eastern.edu, palmerseminary.edu, templeton.eastern.edu, goeasterneagles.com, my.eastern.edu.)
Departments are encouraged to first explore the website options already available through the University. If a department believes that their needs cannot be met by these options, please fill out the form below before proceeding with the creation of an external site. If your request is approved, you are also required to add the Marketing & IT teams as administrators of the external website, in order to ensure oversight and long-term sustainability despite personnel transitions.
Department Blog Policy
While Eastern University allows departments to run social media accounts (i.e. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) after they are officially registered (see Social Media Policy), Eastern departments are not permitted to have their own blogs. The Marketing & Communications team welcomes faculty and staff to share any blog-style story ideas and articles, which can be posted under the Eastern University Stories section of eastern.edu after the article is reviewed by the Marketing & Communications team.
Personal Blogs
Some University employees may have personal blogs that they operate outside of their work at Eastern. Understand that the things you say online can be perceived as representing the University. If you are identifying yourself as a faculty or staff member on your personal blog or website, please include a disclaimer that reads: “This blog reflects my personal views but not necessarily those of Eastern University.” Otherwise, you should identify yourself as a “Higher Education faculty member” or “Higher Education employee.”
