Students with Current Accommodations
A: If you would like to add/change any accommodations, you can fill out a Google Form. The ODA will then let you know if there are any additional steps needed to add/change the accommodation. You are also encouraged to meet with the ODA to discuss any changes or additions to the accommodations.
A: If inquiring about how to schedule a test at the Testing Center, please refer to the right panel and click “How to Schedule a Test at the Testing Center” For other questions or additional questions regarding testing, please contact the ODA via email – oda@eastern.edu
A: ODA wants to ensure that confidentiality is maintained throughout every process of accommodation notifications. No one outside of ODA, aside from essential personnel, is informed of a student’s diagnosis unless the student self-discloses. For academic accommodations, essential personnel include professors and academic advisors. For other accommodations (ie. meal plan, housing, parking), EU staff who have a direct relationship with the accommodations needed will be notified of the student’s accommodations. A student is made aware of who the exact people are when going through the formal request process.
A: All professors are initially notified at the beginning of each semester of students with accommodations in their classes by the ODA. Students with accommodations should meet with professors to discuss how accommodations work in each of their courses. This initial conversation can be via email or in a professor’s office hours. For additional support in talking with professors, please contact the ODA via email – oda@eastern.edu
Students Seeking Potential Accommodations
A: Students seeking accommodations at Eastern must provide documentation from a qualified healthcare provider who can both diagnose the disability and provide support that the disability requires accommodations. In high school, this may have been a school psychologist. However, that is not the only healthcare provider that can assist students in the documentation process. For example, a psychiatrist could speak to the academic impact of anxiety or depression on a student. It is essential that the healthcare provider is knowledgeable about the particular diagnosis and has a history of seeing the student. For additional information, please contact the ODA via email – oda@eastern.edu
A: Students with older paperwork are still encouraged to proceed with accommodation requests if their disability is impacting their access to their education with the understanding that they need to update their paperwork. The ODA can provide suggestions and guidance on how to request updated paperwork depending on the diagnosis. Please contact the ODA via email at oda@eastern.edu for more information and support.
A: If you are currently seeing a healthcare provider for a disability and they can speak to how the disability impacts your ability to access course content, they can potentially be the one to fill out the healthcare provider section of the needed documentation for requesting accommodations. Please refer to the right side panel and click on “How to Request Accommodations” to view the process and needed documentation.
