Experiential Learning

The English Department at Eastern seeks to connect the concepts, theories, and techniques studied within the classroom to experiences, events and ethics outside the classroom. It’s simple: as teachers and students together, we share and create stories, thereby allowing the texture of our stories to enhance the context of the world. As William Carlos Williams explains, “Their story, yours and mine -- it's what we all carry with us on this trip we take, and we owe it to each other to respect our stories and learn from them.”

“Eastern's community culture is perhaps my favorite part of being a student here; the welcoming feel and familiarity of the people and places is a different kind of homey feeling from the city where I grew up. The professors' dedication to making this small but mighty department a worthwhile pursuit. We are all dedicated to reading, discussing, and loving excellent literature, and that alone is a blessing.”
