Dr. Bethany Duthie joined Eastern University in 2023 as an Assistant Professor in the College of Business and Leadership. She became interested in Human Resources, which is her specialty, when she studied motivation theories in college, specifically what motivates individuals to consistently perform at excellent levels. She strives to provide a welcoming atmosphere in the classroom where students feel free to ask questions, debate issues, and discover their fields of interest. Her research interests include employee engagement, an individual’s drive to achieve and its origin, management styles and their effects on employee motivation, performance-based compensation, and employee benefits. In the classroom and the video course content she creates for MBA and undergraduate students, she uses examples from her experience on Wall Street and her work as an expatriate in Singapore.

At Goldman Sachs, Dr. Duthie worked as Vice President of Compensation in Human Resources in New York City. Prior to that, she worked at Morgan Stanley as Associate of Compensation in New York City, AON Hewitt Associates as HR Consultant in Singapore, and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare as Benefits Associate in Chicago. She began her teaching career as an Adjunct Professor at Cabrini University in Radnor, PA, where she taught Compensation and Benefits, Human Resources Management, and Introduction to Management.

Dr. Duthie and her husband Pat have two sons. They enjoy traveling and exploring new places. She enjoys volunteering on the board of Hope for Desperate Hearts, which is a mission organization started by her friend Barkissa that provides funds for food, supplies, and job training to individuals in Barkissa’s homeland of Burkina Faso, West Africa. Dr. Duthie grew up in the Midwest in a wonderful small town with a close-knit family and engaging teachers. She hopes to encourage and inspire her students in the ways that her teachers inspired her.
