Brian is a New Testament scholar whose expertise is understanding the interconnectedness of early Christian and Hellenistic Jewish identities and literature, with a focus on issues of race, socioeconomic status, and gender in providing groups and individuals the conceptual tools necessary for constructing and sustaining life-giving religious identities. In Being Subordinate Men: Paul's Rhetoric of Gender and Power in 1 Corinthians, Brian offers a historically and culturally grounded reading of Paul's understanding of gender and power that allows us to reimagine how Paul conceptualized and used bodies to create communities which affirmed the equality of all people.
