

Dr. Sean Plaskett is a husband, father, brother, teacher, poet, story-teller, mentor, and friend. He loves sports, video games, sci-fi novels & films, and anime. He earned his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University (2011), where he majored in Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Science. Following undergrad, Sean joined Teach For America, teaching grades 6-9 math and science in Houston, TX (2011-2015) before transitioning to graduate school at Penn GSE, where he earned both his M.S.Ed. (2016) and Ph.D. (2025) in Interdisciplinary Studies in Human Development.
As a researcher, Dr. Sean primarily investigates dynamic systems factors and processes that effectively promote academic resilience and/or socioemotional health & wellness among minority and non-traditional student populations (e.g., restorative psychoeducational interventions and pedagogies for BIPOC students and “orchid” students with high biopsychosocial sensitivity; mentoring programs for first-generation, low-income (FGLI) college students; alternative paths toward educational attainment for students with moderate-to-severe risk for dropout; etc.).
In addition to his research and teaching at Eastern, Dr. Sean is a deacon at Epiphany Fellowship Church in North Philadelphia, where he serves on various children’s ministries and as a community group leader.
