David King, Ed.D. served for over a decade as the 13th President of Malone University (OH). He arrived at Malone in 2012 from Eastern University (PA) where he served for 20 years.

Under his leadership, Malone developed an innovative approach to adapting to the rapidly changing higher education landscape; launched new programs such as cybersecurity, criminal & restorative justice, and urban studies; established a new framework for offering online programs including fully online Bachelor’s in Social Work, Masters in Counseling, and MBA; elevated the University’s ‘welcoming, mentoring and serving’ student experience via the Pendle Hill Pledge; restructured Board committees and initiated best practices in governance; secured multiple million dollar gifts toward a $25-million capital campaign resulting in the completion of the Timken Center for Student Success and the Pioneer Park competition field; developed and launched women’s and men’s lacrosse as intercollegiate sports; and, secured more than 100 partnerships with Northeast Ohio organizations, businesses, and non-profits. Malone’s Trustees honored David and Winnie’s tenure by naming the newly constructed intercollegiate soccer / lacrosse facility the David & Winnie King Field.

Dr. King has been an advocate for higher education and served in leadership roles on initiatives with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, the Christian College Consortium, the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities of Ohio, and the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges. He has also served as Chair of the President’s Council of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and served as Chair of the Board for the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities of Ohio. 

At Eastern University, Dr. King served in positions of increasing responsibility including executive dean and chief development officer for the Campolo College of Graduate & Professional Studies, vice president for administration, and director of human resources before culminating his tenure serving as the University’s Provost.

David has served the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) as a director at the local, regional, and national levels having served as Chair of the Eastern Region Board. In 2000 David was a co-recipient of the CUPA-HR Excellence in Human Resources Practice Award. In 2001 he was named the recipient of the Diedrich K. Willers Award from the CUPA-HR Eastern Region in recognition of contributions over a period of years to the cumulative knowledge and stature of human resources within higher education and in 2004 he was awarded the National CUPA-HR Distinguished Service Award and granted Honorary Life Membership.

Dr. King completed his undergraduate degree in social work from Eastern Mennonite University, master’s degrees in human services administration and human resources development from Villanova University, and the Ed.D. in higher education administration from Temple University. Additionally, he completed an education management certificate from the Institute for Education Management from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

David is married to Winnie Lowrie King. They have two grown children – daughter Lindsey King Wilby (MA) and son Justin (NY). They have five grandchildren.
