Graduate Mentor

Summary

The College Success Program for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (CSP) employs two to three graduate students to work as CSP Graduate Mentors for the academic year. An opening for a Graduate Mentor is available for the 2023-2024 academic year. The CSP is designed to support undergraduate students diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder as they negotiate academic and social life on the St. Davids campus. Under the supervision of the CSP Coordinator, CSP Graduate Mentors will live in the residence halls near the CSP students and provide academic support, plan structured programming, encourage social interaction, and offer after-hours support when needed. This is a residential position for fall and spring semesters. Compensation includes a grant for six (6) credits of graduate tuition for each fall and spring semester and room and board for the same period. (Summer housing will be considered on a case by case basis.) Undergraduate Peer Mentor

Summary

Do you enjoy supporting others toward achieving their highest potential? Do you want to learn more about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) while honing your helping skills in a fun, team-oriented context? Are you patient, organized, self-motivated, and open-minded?  The College Success Program for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (CSP) employs 5 undergraduate Peer Mentors each academic year to provide social and academic support to students enrolled in the program. Male candidates are particularly encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants will be a sophomore or above residential undergraduate student in good standing. The following qualifications are highly preferred but not absolutely required: have documented previous work experience with individuals with autism spectrum disorder or in another human services related field, have a valid driver's license. Training and supervision are provided. This is an Eastern Campus Employment position that requires a commitment of 8-10 hours per week. Application & Deadlines

Peer Mentor applications are due by April 1st of the Spring semester prior to the academic year for which you are applying to be a mentor. For example, applications for the 2024-2025 academic year will be due by April 1, 2024. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a case-by-case basis after the application deadline, as long as positions remain open. Applications are still being accepted for the 2023-2024 academic year.
