Dr. Zakia Y. Gates is an Assistant Professor of Education at Eastern University, teaching both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Gates earned a PhD in Professional Studies in K-12 Education from Capella University in 2016. Dr. Gates has two decades of experience across various educational institutions – charter schools and higher education - including serving as Director of Education at a juvenile facility from 2007 to 2014. Dr. Gates philosophy of advancing the mission is through social responsibility, transformative pedagogy, and cultural responsiveness for all humanity. Dr. Gates footprint of this philosophy, turned research interests, informs her teaching practices in both undergraduate and graduate levels.  Dr. Gates believes that the key to effective teaching is to be intentional with your faith, your reason, and your justice for preparing future generational leaders of the world.
