When we hear Palmer’s mission “The Whole Gospel for the Whole World through Whole Persons,” do we assume certain boundaries on that wholeness? Do we expect that a seminary education only equips those who are called to full-time professional ministry?

Seminary Contextualized

Dr. Mayra Picos Lee greets me over Zoom from Mexico City, where she is joining a cohort of Palmer Seminary students for the first residency portion of their program. The Maestría En Estudios Teológicos, or “the Master of Theological Studies in Latino/a Ministries (LMin),” prepares individuals for pastoral ministry and church leadership in a manner that is contextualized to the needs of Latino/a communities.

Holy Moments in the Holy Land: Palmer and Eastern Attendees Reflect on their Trip to Israel

The 14-day study tour included stops in Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem, the Dead Sea, and more. Led by three biblical studies faculty members and attended by a group of 39 students, staff, and family members, the trip was a rich and meaningful experience for all involved.

Anchored in the Spirit

If you are familiar with the history of Eastern University, you will know that our story began with the founding of Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Rittenhouse Square. Over time, a college with a wide array of academic disciplines grew out of the seminary and relocated to its current home in St. Davids. While the seminary remained in Philadelphia for many years, it was eventually reunited with the college and now shares the same campus.
