Jubilee Honors Tony Campolo and Launches Next Chapter for Campolo Center for Ministry

On May 22, the Campolo Center for Ministry gathered for an unforgettable evening of celebration, reflection, and storytelling. The Campolo Jubilee honored the enduring impact of the late Rev. Dr. Tony Campolo ’56 BD ’60, ThM ’61, HD ’06 and unveiled a bold vision for carrying his legacy forward into the next chapter.

Held during Eastern University’s Centennial year, the event marked a significant milestone for the Center, a time where past, present, and future came together in celebration and renewed purpose. The evening was a fitting tribute to Tony, one of the many leaders who helped shape the University’s lasting legacy and a powerful reminder that his influence will continue to guide its flourishing future.

“Tony challenged us not just to believe deeply, but to live boldly. This Jubilee was a testament to the lives he’s touched and a call to continue the work with conviction and courage.”

Robert Gauthier, Executive Director for Philanthropy of the Campolo Center for Ministry

The energy in the room affirmed that the Campolo Center is ready to carry that calling forward.

Campolo Center alumni, faculty, staff, and current students attended the event, in addition to Tony’s family and friends, and members of the broader Eastern community. There were several inspiring speeches throughout the evening, including words from Rev. Dr. Tony Sundermeir ’97, Senior Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, Eastern alumnus, and board member; Miranda Campolo Stowers ’12 , Tony’s oldest grandchild; and Dr. João M. Monteiro, Sociology Program Director at Eastern.

The Campolo Center for Ministry has three collective fundraising goals for carrying Tony’s work into the future, including The Campolo Fellows Scholarship, The Campolo Fellows Program, and establishing The Tony Campolo Chair of Sociology. In total, the Center has raised over 4.6M of its 10M goal for the three initiatives.

“This celebration wasn’t just about honoring the past, it was about committing to the future Tony envisioned for Eastern and for our world. His influence continues through each student and and servant leader the Campolo Center equips. What an honor to celebrate that legacy and invest in its future.”

Rev. Jane Filkin, Director of Leadership Development and Spiritual Formation for the Campolo Center for Ministry

The Jubilee was more than a celebration, it was a powerful reminder of the lasting impact that one person, one passionate community, and one calling can have on generations. We are deeply grateful to all who made the evening possible. To our generous donors and supporters: thank you for investing in the Campolo Center’s vision for Christ-centered leadership. To our dedicated event team: your behind-the-scenes efforts made this event special. To our Campolo Fellows, alumni, and community who shared their stories and presence: your testimonies brought Tony’s legacy to life. And to Tony: thank you for inspiring us, challenging us, and pointing us always toward Jesus. We carry your vision forward with grateful hearts.

May we continue to live out the values Tony inspired in us, striving to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. (Micah 6:8)
